What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent beauty products used to enhance the length, curl, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes.
Unlike Strip Eyelashes (Falsies), semi-permanent Eyelash Extensions are set in place individually by a meticulous process.
What are Eyelash Extensions made of?
Extensions are most commonly made of synthetic faux mink or silk fibers. Above all, natural mink fibers being a more expensive, and unique, option.
Faux mink can be made with distinct curves for different shapes of eyelashes and lighter or heavier extension bases to provide different appearances. Silk is another synthetic extension option and is lightweight. However, it has a semi-gloss finish which gives the extensions a more faux look.
Natural mink lashes are made from the fibers of Mink animal hair which humanely sources from the softest parts of their tails in shed fur. Because this is a natural beauty product, it is usually the most expensive to obtain and mostly found in strip lashes.
How do you apply these Faux Lashes?
A professionally trained lash artist will use a special glue to place the extension on an individual eyelash. It is placed on top of the natural eyelash to increase the length and volume.
This process takes around 1-2 hours amd requires touch-up or infill sessions every 2-3 weeks. For instance, the time frame depends on how much of the lash bed is replaced by natural lash growth.
Is getting Extensions painful?
No, the process of placing eyelash extensions should never be painful. There are some people who may be sensitive to the lash adhesive. As a result, the lash artist should perform a spot test to identify any reaction and inform the client of preventative measures.
If you have an allergic reaction to the lash glue, you should have the extensions removed. See a doctor if irritation does not go away after 24 hours.
Unlike falsies, eyelash extensions are placed individually to one natural, healthy eyelash. This process is meticulous and has many shapes, weights and styles. Eyelash extensions should last between 3 to 6 weeks, or, with regular fills, indefinitely. Eyelash extensions are meant to be a semi-permanent alternative to false eyelash strips.
